A New Craze officially formed in 2018 after playing as a makeshift cover band at a New Year’s Eve party a few years in a row. Whether it was serendipity or just dumb luck, the combination of guitarist and vocalist Mark Mass, keyboardist and vocalist Eryn Holbrook, bassist Nathan Farrell, and drummer Jakub Svoboda seemed to click. With a backlog of cover songs as long as a John Bonham drum solo, pinpointing this band’s influences is an onerous task. And sure, their original songs centre around timeless themes of heartbreak and resilience, but there’s nothing mopey about the kind of music A New Craze generates. In the end, aren’t we all just here to have a good time?
